Hi I’m Eric Williams with NorthStar Technology Services.

I often get asked  - Why is my Small Business an easy target for cyber criminals?

The short answer is that most small businesses have the same exposure as large businesses but not the budget and staff to mitigate the risk of that exposure.

In short pretty much all businesses are connected to the internet today.  What used to simply be the super highway, has become a bit like the wild west with bullets getting fired at you every day whether you know it or not.

That said there is often a lack of knowledge when it comes to cybersecurity.  Your company is really good at what you make, sell or manage, but often not good with technology and thus cybersecurity.

I also often hear ‘that’s never going to happen to us, we’re small no one even knows we’re out here, or all are programs are online in the ‘cloud’  or none of our programs are in the ‘cloud’ so we’re safe.

Unfortunately, its really not a matter of if you’ll be attacked but really a matter of when. These attacks come in the form of ransomware, data breaches, and brute force attacks.

Whether you are cloud based or on premise based, you are connected in some way.  If you’re watching this then you have some internet connection.

There are several ‘layered’ approaches to take when it comes to cybersecurity, and 80% of small businesses report they have concerns but only 20% do something proactively about it.

Give us a call today and we can share some steps to take to make sure you are protected as much as you budget will allow, and we put together a plan to improve your cybersecurity step by step.
